Coffee and I

Coffee and I Visionary Artist Award
I depicted myself with my uncle’s dog, named coffee, who I have played with since I was a toddler. Coffee is a Labrador and Dutch Shepherd mix, and a terrifying dog at first glance. She’s a big, dark, lean, mass, loud in her barks, yet the sweetest creature. The only way she can hurt you is if her tail is whacking too hard from shaking her tail with joy. I often lie next to Coffee, staring into her eyes and wondering how she saw me, with her big brown orbs with no eye whites. This piece is done in colored pencil, using primarily warm colors. Even in Coffee’s fur there's hints of brown through the dark strokes, while everything has yellow. The environment is yellow, the floor is yellow, and I'm wearing yellow; yellow is often associated with joy, such as a smiling sun. My drawing of Coffee and I is a reflection of happy childhood memories.
